Lawn Fawn - Underwater Magic Iris Card

mardi 31 août 2021

 Hey there,

Today's card features two shark pirates who have found a treasure hidden in cave deep down in the ocean. I used the Magic Iris die set to create my underwater scene and it's been a while since I used this die so I'm very excited to share this card today!

As always I started with the coloring. I stamped the images using jet black ink, cut them all using the coordinating dies and then colored eveything using my alcohol markers.

After the coloring, I created the cave. I cut three panels out of rainforest, peacock and mermaid cardstock. I put the rainforest aside, and did some dit cutting on the two panels. I took the second stitched den and cut an opening in the middle of the peacock panel, and then took the third stitched den and cut an opening in the middle of the mermaid panel.

And to ground my scene, I cut a wavy border out of vanilla malt paper.

Next I added more depth and shadows to those three cave backgrounds. On the rainforest panel, I applied pine needle distress ink on the outside and inside edges, on the peacock panel I applied lucky clover distress ink on the outside edges, and on the mermaid panel I applied evergreen bough distress ink on the inside edges as well.

And I turned the wavy border into a sand border by using antique linen and vintage photo distress inks.

Next I moved on to the interactive part and it's always easier to understand how to make that kind of cards with images so I invite you to watch the process video below to see how it was done.

Once the entire interactive process was done, I filled my cave background with all the images. And to be able to close the iris, I needed the images inside the circle to stay flat so I used liquid glue to stuck those images, and for the other images I also used glue dots.

I added white highlights and details to the images, and attached my panel on a sugarplum panel that I stuck on a sugarplum card base. Next I cut the arrow handle a second time out of sugarplum paper, and  stuck the small arrow on the magic iris handle. I also white heat embossed my sentiment 'You are jawsome' on cilantro paper, and finally trimmed it into a small banner that I attached right above the cave.

Lawn Fawn - Magic Picture Changer Camping Scene

mardi 10 août 2021

 Hey there,

This week is all about our favorite products from Lawn Fawn. I love all kinds of interactive cards but my favorite are definitely magic picture changer cards, these are so fun to make!

I started by stamping the images using jet black ink and used the coordinating dies to cut them all. I also cut the tent elements out of pattern papers from the Perfectly Plaid Fall 6x6 paper pack + Chocolate bar cardstock + Paper Bag cardstock. I colored the images using my alcohol markers, and also added a bit of shadows on the pattern paper tents using brown alcohol markers.

Next I cut a panel measuring 8,5 x 4" and created a night sky using blueprint sketch, chipped sapphire and black soot oxide inks. I added a whole lot of texture: water droplets, black soot oxide ink + water splatters, liquid stardust and white acrylic paint + water splatters.

For the interactive part of my card, I started by cutting two pieces of paper: a long one for the pocket die, and a smaller one for the moving piece die, and traced the windows using a pencil.

On the long panel I stamped the campfire base, and on the small panel I stamped the campfire, and above that campfire, I stamped the smoke image as well.

I used the coordinating dies to cut a mask for each image, stuck those masks and then applied the exact same inks and added the exact same textures as before to my two panels. I let everything dry and removed the masks. And next I did some quick coloring using my alcohol markers again.

I added white highlights and details to those two images, and then did the whole magic picture changer mechanism. And I invite you to watch the video below to see how it was made.

When it was done, I tested it a few times to make the mechanism more smooth and next cut the frame that would go on my pocket element. I cut it out of the large panel I created before. I taped the frame die in the middle of that panel and sent it to my die cut machine. And then I attached it right on my magic picture changer pocket.

I cut an 8,5 x 4" card base out of Blue Jay cardstock. To stick the remaining panels of night sky and be at the same height as the pocket, I used foam tape, and to stick the pocket between those night panels, I just used double sided tape.

To ground my scene I cut a slimline wavy border out of Noble Fir that I stuck at the bottom of my panel. Next I stuck the tents and then the images. Once my scene was complete, I created the handle to pull the tab. I cut it out of Chocolate Bar cardstock and Peacock cardstock. I attached the brown element first at the top of the tab using liquid glue, and then I added the small arrow in the middle.

Finally I created my sentiment. I white heat embossed it on a Paper Bag banner and stuck right below the handle using foam squares, and as usual I added white highlights and details to the images.

Purple Onion Designs 18th Anniversary - Snow Globe Pop-Up Box

samedi 7 août 2021

 Hello there,

We're still celebrating Purple Onion Designs 18th anniversary! The sale will end on August 9th, so today I'm back with one last video to inspire you. I made a snow globe using several dies from My Favorite Things (listed below) and started by stamping the images using Extreme black ink by My Favorite Things, cut them all using my Scan 'n cut, and colored everything using my alcohol markers.

When the coloring was done, I cut the back of the card and colored it using tumbled glass, mermaid lagoon and blueprint sketch distress inks, and then added snow to this panel by splattering on the paper a mix of white acrylic paint and water.

I set the paper aside to dry and then moved on to the card base. I cut all the elements out of white cardstock and applied strong double sided sticky tape on the tabs. Folded all the elements on the score lines, and next assembled the two long pieces, and then attached the cloud borders. And closed the box.

I applied double sided tape on the front of my blue panel, right at the bottom, and attached that panel at the back of the card base. And then I stuck the images inside the card on the cloud borders using glue dots and liquid glue.

Next I created my fake snow globe. I used the same die as the one I used for the back of the card and cut a panel out of acetate. To give this acetate panel a frosty look, I applied white acrylic paint along the edges using a blending tool. And I added snow the same way as before by splattering a mix of white acrylic paint with water on the acetate panel.

I cut an additional cloud border and cut off the tabs. At the back of the acetate papel I applied double side tape right on the bottom edge, and I attached the panel on the cloud border. And I attached this element on the front of the card base using double sided sticky tape.

I white heat embossed my sentiment on red cardstock, trimmed it into a banner and glued it on the front of the card.

Purple Onion Designs - Double Slider Surprise Fishing Card

dimanche 1 août 2021

 Hey there,

I'm back with a new card showcasing some Purple Onion Designs rubber stamps, and to remind you that there is an amazing sale on their shop to celebrate their 18th anniversary: you get 25% off the rubber stamps and that sale ends on August 9th, so happy shopping.

Stamped all my images using extreme black ink by My Favorite Things, cut them all using my Scan 'n Cut, and as usual I colored everything my Spectrum Noir markers and Graph'it brush markers.

Next I created the background using the Double Slider Surprise die set by Lawn Fawn. I cut one pocket panel and two small panels, stamped mountains on those three panels, and used my alcohol markers again to color those elements. I also made the sky using tumbled glass distress ink and a cloud stencil.

I cut a second pocket panel, as well as a track piece. Folded both pocket pieces right on the score lines to create a slim flap on each element and applied double sided sticky tape on those slim flaps. And I also applied that tape on the track piece, right on the long edges, front and back.

Next I cut a strip of plastic as wide as the track piece. Applied doubled side tape on one end and attached that strip around the track piece. Not too tight and not too loose or the mechanism won't work.

I cut the excess of plastic, and placed the seam on the left end, applied tape on the seam, flipped the track piece over and applied tape on the other end.

And before assembling everything, I attached my images on my two small panels and next on the pocket panel using liquid glue. Next step was to assemble everything, and I invite you to watch the video below to see how it was done.

I attached a woodgrain panel on a white card base, stamped and cut my sentiment, cut another panel out of a yellow pattern paper, attached handles at the back of each small panel, and added foam tape at the back of the pocket, that I stuck on the yellow pattern paper.

Next I attached that new panel on the card base using double sided tape, and finally stuck my sentiment banner above the pocket using foam squares. And I finished the card by adding white highlights and details on the images.
